Ecology Czapla, Grant [1], Krakos, Kyra [2]. A five year study of the stability of the pollination system of Monarda fistulosa. Annual variation in abiotic factors can impact the primary pollinator and the proportion of pollen movement. Morphological variation is common across years in flowering plants. In this study, we found that there was a significant difference in the stigma length and height of M. fistulosa from the years 2012 and 2016. We compared detailed pollination data from the years of 2012-2017, and we found that the pollination system is stable, and the main pollinator groups remain consistent year to year. M. fistulosa potentially have night moth pollination in addition to bees, however in 2017 M. fistulosa does not have a dual pollination system. Further study is needed to determine the role of moths in the pollination system.
