Revolutionizing systematics: Herbaria in the Genomics Age

Moore, Abigail [1], Kadereit, Joachim [2].

Substrate specialization and genetic bottlenecks in Alpine Cherleria (Caryophyllaceae).

Cherleria encompasses a group of 19 species that were formerly classified in Minuartia (Caryophyllaceae). Although Cherleria as a whole is circumboreal, we focus here on a clade of 11 species that occur primarily in the Alps and on the Balkan Peninsula of Europe. Of these 11 species, two are substrate generalists, while nine specialize on various types of substrates, including calcareous, siliceous, and serpentine substrates. We use genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) data to examine the relationships of the species and their history of colonization of the Alps. In addition, we look for evidence of bottlenecks associated with long-distance dispersal and substrate switching.
